Roots / Suhbah Coffee
Barista
About the Role
Suhbah means companionship. It's the name of our coffee shop because the shop exists for the same reason Roots does: so that a person has somewhere to belong. We're looking for part-time baristas who understand that pouring a good drink and making someone feel welcome are the same job.
For a lot of people, Suhbah is the first place they ever encounter Roots. They haven't signed up for a program or walked into a class. They just walked in for coffee. That makes the bar one of the most important doors we have, and you are the person standing at it.
So this role is two things at once. It's real craft: dialing in espresso, steaming milk properly, keeping the bar clean and the line moving. We care about the details, because the details are where the care shows, and a drink made well enough is a missed chance to show someone we thought about them. And it's real hospitality: learning names, noticing the person sitting alone, and making a stranger feel like a regular on their second visit.
You don't need years behind an espresso machine. We will teach you the equipment, the recipes, and the standard. What we can't teach is genuine warmth toward people, so that's what we're looking for first.
