About the Role

Roots is looking for a Convert Care Coordinator to build and own an ecosystem of care for seekers, new Muslims, and converts. These are three distinct audiences: someone exploring Islam who isn't yet Muslim, someone who just took their Shahada, and someone who embraced Islam years ago but still carries challenges unique to their journey. Each needs something different from us.

This is a relational, deeply human role. Roots is a community, and our work is belonging: the fellowship that answers the loneliness so often surrounding a person discovering or living their faith. We make a nervous seeker feel at home, sit with a new Muslim through a hard week, and notice the longtime convert standing quietly at the edge of the room. In so many spaces, Islam is taught in a classroom, lesson by lesson, and that work matters. Our work is the ground beneath it: the belonging that holds a person before, during, and long after anything they learn. We make sure that whatever a person encounters lands inside a community that knows their name, believes in them, and walks with them. That is the heart of this role.

You'll walk alongside people through one of the most significant transitions of their lives, meeting them where they are, connecting them to knowledge and to one another, and making sure the moment of embracing Islam is a beginning that's held, not a milestone that's left alone. You'll design the full journey, build the partnerships that support it, and lead a team of volunteers who help carry it.

This role leans more toward orchestration than teaching. You're the one who builds and runs the system, more than the one delivering every lesson. That said, you're not hands-off: you can hold an introductory conversation, answer the early questions a seeker or new Muslim brings, and meaningfully engage in enrichment at a foundational level. The skill is knowing where your own depth ends and when to connect someone to a teacher or mentor better suited to go deeper. Comfortable being the first conversation, humble enough to hand off the rest.
